So, I've been hanging out in the IRC channel, yet haven't drawn any Touhou art, so have some not-very-spectacular art of China taken in a room with bad lighting on a digital camera.
's kinda alright. The parchment feel gives it a certain flair.

Never used a tablet before? Well, it takes a while to get into it, so just keep working. If you want to use pen pressure in oekaki, download the java pen plugin:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Other-Internet-Related/Cellosoft-JTablet-Plugin.shtmlThen click the little P button in the top right corner of the canvas. The upper slider in the pressure menu is alpha/softness, and the lower is maximum size. When you use pressure sensitivity, you'll see that coloring is much easier, since you don't have to adjust the brush size all the time.As for oekaki, if you want a softer and more "natural" coloring technique, use the watercolor brush. The best way to use this is to use one layer for every color(or several colors on one layer if they aren't to close to each other). First use the pen tool to lay down a covering base color, and make sure you go a bit outside the lines(the line layer has to be in a separate layer on top, of course). The thing with the watercolor brush is that is gives you nice, smooth blendings, but easily mixes up with colors that are close, that's why you need separate layers, and why you need to paint outside, otherwise it picks up the transparent(white) color and makes it all gray. But if done right, you can get very nice results. Then you just erase the spillage.I hope that makes sense. Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Something like this. Also, you can use a lot of Photoshop commands and shortcuts in Shi Painter. Space to move around on the canvas(mostly used in zoom mode). B is brush, E eraser etc. Ctrl-Z works in several steps. Oekaki post (Time: ⑨ min, Painter: Shi Normal)

Thanks. I think i will try to do something little and see how it ends up.
It's a bit hard and takes a long time but this is much practical. I'll try my hand at painting later. Here's what I'we done :P

Something went all pasty while Marisa was out mowing her patch of the Magic Forest. Now how will she finish her mowing with a bent blade.
So... stuff. I don't draw much so there's not a lot to go here unfortunately.I'm kinda not sure what to concentrate on now. I think I'm getting the hang of gradients etc. generally, maybe colours, but I'm not happy with the style of how I do a lot of things, particularly eyes and hair. Yeah, yeah, practice will fix it eventually, but if anyone has any pointers, CG tutorials for particular styles, or other comments on things that are blatantly wrong, I'd appreciate it...I really need to learn to draw faster too somehow, because these represent stupid amounts of time...

>>591Like I said, there is no joke... I just wanted to test out some shading, comic framing and speech bubbles (since I hadn't done it before) without having to adapt it for a joke too. I don't really want the style to change randomly between 'real' comics. So basically, shading is ok but I need to test out the characters a bit? I'm considering colour too, doing it in B&W saves a little time but was mostly done just because that's how 4koma are 'done'.>>586I like the newer Marisa outfits best, although I thought ZUN drew them that big... dunno where I got that from.
